In France supermaekwts are banned from throwing away unsold food. They have to donate it to charities and food banks instead. So, the country losses just 1.8% of the food it produces each year. France is also promoting take-home bags for in eateries, as well as spending over $1 million on research to extend shelf life, to cut 1 million tonnes from the food it wastes every year.

In South Korea, it is illegal to throw food waste away. People must put every scrap in biodegrable bags, and is turned into animal feed, fertilizer and biogas. Sending food to landfill was banned in 2005. Today, South Korea recycles 95% of all food waste.
