Mango Anthracnose Disease Control

Product Type: Fruits - mango
Stage: Production & Harvesting, Handling & Storage
Problem: Anthracnose is a disease affecting mangos during growth and harvest, the disease results in physical blemishes from the disease colonies covering the surface of the fruit
Solution: Hot water treatment which either runs water over mangos in a continuous stream or in whole batches which is shown to be effective in reducing anthracnose incidence.

  4. A hot water treatment designed for anthracnose control can effectively restrain the growth of anthracnose in the processing stage after harvest. There are two forms of treatment that can be adopted: a batch system or a continuous flow system. Utilizing treatment temperatures between 53℃ and 55℃ and treatment times between 3 minutes and 5 minutes is suggested. Treatment time should be decreased if temperature is increased to avoid heat damage to the fruit resulting in scalding, browning, uneven ripening, excessive softening, etc.
Shown below are Keitt mangos which have received hot water treatment over 20 days of simulated transportation followed by 3 days of ripening.
