APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2020 (Version 2014)
The Challenges
1. Food security has become an increasing concern among many APEC economies due to rising
food prices and periods of price volatility. Food security is a multi‐ dimensional and complex issue
consisting of many social, economic, environmental, physical and political factors. The commonly
accepted definition of food security is: “Food security exists when all people, at all times, have
physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs
and food preferences for an active and healthy life”.
