Japan rice cooker firm brews upcycled rice beer to reduce food waste

A Japanese manufacturer of cooking and home appliances has been selling craft beer made with upcycled rice in the hopes of reducing about 30 tons of food waste that originates annually from the development process of its rice cookers. The company holds multiple trials during the development and performance evaluation of its rice cookers. Most of the food is left and used for compost, but it had been looking for other ways to utilize the crop and began brewing craft beer after a suggestion from another company specializing in food waste reduction.
