2018 APEC High Level Policy Dialogue, Taipei June 14-15, 2018
Building on the APEC multi-year project M SCE 02 2013A “Strengthening Public-Private Partnership to Reduce Food Losses in the Supply Chain”, this high-level policy dialogue (HLPD) aims to:
l Highlight the roles of public and private sectors in partnership by showcasing main activities and their achievements on food losses and waste (FLW) reduction from member economies;
l Strengthen collaboration and build alliances to move forward with technological R&D and social innovative solutions on FLW reduction in the APEC region;
l Promote regional cooperation in capacity building and infrastructure investment to improve efficiency of the food system for food security and inclusive growth.
Since 2013, the participating member economies have shared the common issues of concern for food security and FLW reduction. This project falls within the global initiatives of UN FAO to improve the efficiency of the food system, make better use of natural resources and increase the agriculture sector’s contribution to economic growth and stability through FLW reduction in four strategic components: 1) definition, data and analytical research on FLW measurement; 2) awareness raising campaign and promotion of best practices; 3) infrastructure investment and engaging stakeholders from public and private sectors, and 4) experience sharing on toolkits, innovation and policy implementation.
Building on the above, this HLPD is an opportunity to exchange views on ongoing projects related to FLW and to request recommendations from member economies to move forward with FLW reduction in the APEC region. Recommendations for ensuring progress and future FLW actions to foster food security policies will be delivered to the ATCWG and PPFS at the APEC 2018 Food Security Week in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in August 4-10.
